This annual event is proudly sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MCH Catalyst Program hosted their inaugural Poster and Abstract Contests at <a href=\"https:\/\/sc.edu\/study\/colleges_schools\/public_health\/about\/news\/2021\/mch_competition_awards.php#.Yr-XwXbMKbg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Discover UofSC<\/a> in 2021. Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first MCH Catalyst Program Poster Contest was hosted virtually.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The contest- open to undergraduate and graduate students of the University of South Carolina- seeks to recognize exceptional students who present outstanding poster projects focused on the health of mothers, children, adolescents, or families.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the help of student and faculty volunteers, the MCH Catalyst Poster Contest was able to review and judge over 20 graduate and undergraduate poster submissions in person. Each volunteer reviewer utilized a uniform rubric to judge the purpose, methods, reliability, results, conclusion, novelty, and overall quality of the poster submission.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three undergraduate and five graduate students were chosen as winners of the MCH Catalyst Poster Contest. Undergraduate\u202fwinners included:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lauren McAbee, 1<sup>st<\/sup> place for her project\u202f<em>Evaluation of a device to detect neonatal hypothermia in a clinical setting in Ghana<\/em>;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li><li>Abigail Broadhead, 2<sup>nd<\/sup> place for her project <em>Correlation between the Broad Autism Phenotype Feature of Aloofness and Maternal Depression and Anxiety<\/em>; and\u202f&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>MacKenzie Bewley, 3<sup>rd<\/sup> place for her poster titled\u202f<em>There\u2019s an App for That: Examining the Role of Social Media and Smartphone Technology in Supporting Youth Mental Health<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The graduate\u202fwinners for the MCH Catalyst Poster Contest were named as follows:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1st\u202fPlace awarded to Sarah Brunson for\u202f<em>Relationships between Pregnancy and Postpartum Hypertensive Disorders and Lactation Outcomes: A Scoping Review<\/em>\u202f&nbsp;<\/li><li>2nd\u202fPlace awarded to\u202fErin Gorman-Sandler for\u202f<em>Gestational stress induces mitochondrial dysfunction in prefrontal cortex and depressive-like behavior in postpartum rats<\/em>\u202f&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>3rd\u202fPlace awarded to\u202fAgnes Bucko for\u202f<em>Provider practices and children\u2019s obesogenic behaviors in South Carolina\u2019s family child care homes<\/em>\u202f&nbsp;<\/li><li>4th\u202fPlace awarded to\u202fErin Stickler for <em>Do Pregnant Women Perceive Being Counseled About Nutrition by Healthcare Providers?<\/em>\u202f&nbsp;<\/li><li>5th\u202fPlace awarded to\u202fErin Kishman for\u202f<em>Salivary Evening Melatonin in Postpartum Women: An Exploratory Analysis<\/em>\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All winners of the MCH Catalyst Poster Contest were presented with monetary prizes along with their certificates of achievement.
