Through 12 dynamic events and community partnerships, MCHSA created meaningful spaces for students to explore maternal and child health, connect with professionals, and engage in community-centered work.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prioritizing\u00a0academic enrichment and mentorship, MCHSA\u00a0held\u00a0<strong>two Journal Club sessions<\/strong>, where students explored topics such as contraceptive care and racial\/ethnic disparities in maternal and infant health.\u00a0<strong>Student-faculty lunches<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0<em>Dr.\u00a0Nandita\u00a0Perumal<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Dr.\u00a0Jennifer\u00a0Fillo<\/em>\u00a0offered students valuable opportunities to build relationships with faculty and gain insights into career paths in maternal and child health.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MCHSA\u2019s 2024-2025 programming also amplified support for the\u00a0<strong>Black Maternal Health Week Empowerment Fest<\/strong>, a vibrant event featuring a panel of advocates, professionals, and community leaders.\u00a0Tabling partners such as\u00a0<em>Black Doulas of Columbia, Midlands Healthy Start, Scrub Life Cares, March of Dimes, USC Health Services, and the Prenatal Vitamin Club<\/em>\u00a0helped create an engaging and informative atmosphere.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-ad2f72ca wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p>A key highlight of the year was MCHSA\u2019s growing partnership with USC&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sc.edu\/about\/offices_and_divisions\/housing\/galen_health_fellows\/index.php\">Galen Health Fellows<\/a><\/strong>, which led to several co-hosted events focused on health equity and community engagement.\u00a0This partnership included engaging with the\u00a0<strong>Power in Changing Guest Speaker Event<\/strong>\u00a0along with <strong>three volunteer days<\/strong>, which gave students hands-on opportunities to support local initiatives in South Carolina. Collaborations with\u00a0<strong>Prisma Health Healthy Start<\/strong>\u00a0further strengthened MCHSA\u2019s community ties, including a\u00a0<strong>Women\u2019s Health Interactive Workshop<\/strong>\u00a0that encouraged dialogue and learning around holistic care.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this time,\u00a0MCHSA continued to hold\u00a0their\u00a0<strong>general\u00a0body\u00a0meetings<\/strong>\u00a0throughout the year, including sessions focused on student elections, leadership, and how to actively participate within the organization.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As they continue to grow, MCHSA continues to show up as a vibrant, thriving\u00a0community for students passionate about maternal and child health. Whether through volunteering, learning, or networking, the association offers a welcoming space to make a difference\u00a0on-campus and beyond.
