This year\u2019s theme was \u201cSynergies of Space and Place: Advancing Public Health Through Non-traditional Partnerships\u201d. This conference provides an amazing opportunity to hear from distinguished speakers, learn updates about current practices and research within SC, network with practitioners, gain mentorships, and engage with student researchers through oral and poster presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference involves a variety of topics pertinent to public health, one being Maternal and Child Health (MCH). The Maternal and Child Health Catalyst Program at the University of South Carolina sponsored one of the awards for students, specifically the SCPHA MCH Student Abstract Award. The following students were awarded first, second, and third place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:55% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/mch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Picture2-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1364 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/mch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Picture2-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/mch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Picture2-2-980x654.jpg 980w, https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/mch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Picture2-2-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>1st Place: Tiffany Byrd<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>\u201cFor a long time\u2026.they weren&#8217;t able to have anybody..I&#8217;d be petrified if I was by myself.&nbsp; The impact of early COVID-19 policy and practice recommendations on the social support of African American women birthing in South Carolina hospitals in 2020\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2nd Place: Bonnie Treado<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>\u201cAddressing the Opioid Epidemic Impact on Maternal and Neonatal Health: Insights from Pickens County, South Carolina\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:39% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"934\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/mch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Picture1-1-934x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1363 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>3rd Place: Megan Austin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>\u201cThe overturning of Roe v Wade&#8217;s impact on South Carolinian college students&#8217; contraceptive use\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of these students conducted exemplary projects addressing maternal and child health. The MCH Catalyst Program at the University of South Carolina is honored to have been able to recognize these students for their efforts and advancement of MCH research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:47% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/mch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Picture3-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1365 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>In addition, one of our MCH Master\u2019s Scholars, Olivia Hinds, presented her research project at the conference this year: \u201cTrends and best practices in screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for pregnant and postpartum Medicaid enrollees\u201d.
