Mission<\/h3>\n

MCHSA connects multidisciplinary undergraduate and graduate students with interests in the maternal and child health (MCH)-related careers and topics, which include the health and well-being of mothers, infants, children, and adolescents. MCHSA offers a platform for students to meet and discuss MCH-related practice, research, careers, and current events.<\/p>\n

MCHSA holds monthly general meetings as well as additional events including seminars, career development opportunities, and networking opportunities with students at USC and other universities.<\/p>\n

Fahmida Akter\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

President-Elect<\/h3>\n

Fahmida Akter <\/span><\/span>is a second-year PhD student in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior at USC and a public health researcher from Bangladesh. Before beginning her PhD, she spent more than a decade working in public health research, with a focus on maternal and child health, nutrition, food systems, and health equity. Her research interests center on understanding how social, structural, and food-system factors shape nutrition and health, particularly among women, children, and underserved communities. As President-Elect, Fahmida is excited to bring her experience and global perspective to MCHSA while creating opportunities for students across disciplines to connect, learn from one another, and grow together.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kyla Brown<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Secretary<\/h3>\n

Kyla Brown<\/span><\/span> is a senior at the University of South Carolina pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Women\u2019s & Gender Studies. She serves as the Secretary of the organization and is passionate about maternal and child health, reproductive justice, and addressing health disparities affecting Black women and families, particularly in rural communities. Through her academic, clinical, research, and community experiences, Kyla hopes to contribute to creating more <\/span>equitable<\/span> healthcare systems. She plans to pursue a career in medicine, with a particular interest in OB-GYN and maternal health.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lathika Chaluvadi is a sophomore Public Health B.S. major with a minor in Business Administration on the pre-med track. Her interest in maternal and child health has stemmed from her public health classes and experience shadowing OB\/GYN physicians, which has made her aware of the disparities in healthcare. In the future, she hopes to get her MD\/MPH and become a patient-centered physician focused on addressing healthcare inequalities in the system. Lathika is super excited for this opportunity and can\u2019t wait to see what we accomplish together this year!<\/p>\n

Kaelyn Felix is a Public Health major with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. Post-baccalaureate, Kaelyn intends to<\/span> <\/span>pursue<\/span> <\/span>her master’s in social work and public health<\/span> in Health Service Policy and Management, with a goal of entering governmental affairs & lobbying. <\/span><\/span>As Director of Content Creation and Management, Kaelyn develops and organizes engaging visual content, including flyers, slideshows, and infographics. She <\/span>utilizes<\/span> her communication and creative skills to effectively convey information to MCHSA members.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through her dedication to service, she hopes to inspire others to get involved and make a positive impact.
