{"id":1275,"date":"2025-11-17T15:40:23","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T15:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/leap\/?p=1275"},"modified":"2026-01-06T16:37:53","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T16:37:53","slug":"mch-leap-spring-summit-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/leap\/2025\/11\/17\/mch-leap-spring-summit-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"MCH LEAP Spring Summit 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On April 11th, 2025, the MCH LEAP program hosted its fourth annual Spring Summit, gathering over fifty students, faculty, and administrators from the University of South Carolina (USC) with working professionals in the field of maternal and child health (MCH) here in our state. &nbsp;Dr. Tara Sabo-Attwood, PhD, Dean and Henry Savage Jr. Professor in Environmental Quality and Global Health at the University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health, gave opening remarks, sharing the University\u2019s commitment to the goals of the MCH programs at USC to foster diversity within the public health and healthcare workforce in order to improve the health and well-being of mothers, children and families among underserved and minority populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/mch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/MCH-LEAP-Summit-2025-12-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5031\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.503711316660957;width:649px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were honored to be joined by two wonderful keynote speakers: Dr. Anthony R. Gregg, MD, MBA, FACOG, FACMG, and Ms. Danielle Wingo. &nbsp;Dr. Gregg is the Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Prisma Health \u2013 Columbia and gave a keynote presentation on the topic of carrier screening in a talk titled: Prenatal Carrier Screening Policy is Impacted by Population Databases. &nbsp;Ms. Wingo is the SC&nbsp;State Title V Director and Bureau Director of Maternal and Child Health at the Department of Public Health, and she spoke on her career trajectory and lessons learned in the public health field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/mch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/speaker-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5032\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.2716185144456662;width:367px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.asph.sc.edu\/mch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/speaker-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5033\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.0910736736233342;width:328px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Career Roundtables were also a highlight of the day \u2013 allowing students to meet and ask questions of seven professionals working in maternal and child health careers. Davis, DNP, APRN, CPNP-PC, CNE<\/mark><\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>BSN Program Director and Associate Professor, Professional Nursing Practice, College of Nursing, USC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We rounded out the Spring Summit by hearing from some of the MCH LEAP Emerging Scholars of Cohort 4, Courtney Brooks and Jessica Delgado, and by learning from two former trainees where they are at now in their careers and how MCH LEAP helped them to get there, Cassidy Lena and Di\u2019Onna McFadden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We finished our day by recognizing our LEAP students with certificates of program completion, MCH LEAP graduation cords, and thanks for all who contributed to a successful Spring Summit and program year.
